The Advisory Councils provide forums through which the Baltic Exchange can engage with its membership and serve as a conduit through which the Baltic can discuss the development of the Baltic indices and receive feedback to proposed changes and new products.

Each Council comprises not more than 12 persons representing a cross-section of all users of the Baltic indices. Members are appointed by the Baltic Exchange from amongst its membership and serve on the Council for a minimum of one year. Feedback from the advisory meetings is presented to the BIC for their reference and the chairperson of an Advisory Council is invited to attend the BIC meetings.

There are five Advisory Councils at present:

  1. Baltic Asia Advisory Council: Dry
  2. Baltic Asia Advisory Council: Wet
  3. Baltic Europe Advisory Council: Dry
  4. Baltic Europe Advisory Council: Wet
  5. Baltic Forward Assessment Advisory Council

The composition of the councils is predominantly members of the Baltic and limited to three brokers each, though non-Baltic members are eligible to join.
