As part of the UK’s Seafarers Awareness Week 2016, the Merchant Navy Training Board will be showcasing ‘the hidden seafarer’ at an event on 21 June at the UK Chamber of Shipping. This event will give attendees the chance to discover a range of interesting and intriguing job roles seafarers have taken up in making a move ashore and the career paths they followed to get there.

‘Seafarers Awareness Week’ is the annual campaign co-ordinated by Seafarers UK – a charity that supports the maritime community – to raise awareness of Britain’s dependence on seafarers. The theme for this year’s Seafarers Awareness Week is ‘Maritime Jobs for Future Generations’ and this event provides an opportunity to celebrate the vast and varied maritime expertise that helps to make shore-based maritime businesses work.

The event will be followed by the launch of the Maritime Educational Foundation strategic plan and funding opportunities and a networking reception.
