On 20 August, the Baltic’s Flyfishing Society held their annual outing, once again enjoying a day on the River Test, at Marsh Court, near Stockbridge in Hampshire.

Some members came down the night before and stayed at the Greyhound on The Test, an iconic fishing pub in Hampshire. Others joined for breakfast before a quick visit to Robjent’s to buy last minute flies and other bits of fishing paraphernalia essential for the day.

It was then a short drive to Marsh Court where the eight fortunate members had three miles of private fishing and a glorious thatched fishing hut with refreshments and a barbecue laid on by The Greyhound.

Everyone had a successful day with multiple fish caught, including some real whoppers.

This was in spite of a difficult breeze blowing down the river which made casting tricky and, as in previous years, fewer rises than one might expect. However, although challenging, it was a rewarding day and greatly enjoyed by all.

This years “Kingfisher” was Henry MacLellan of SSY, with Jolyon Wright of Baltic Exchange not far behind.

As usual, we must thank our host Ben Few Brown of The Country Agent who arranged the fishing for us at the beautiful Marsh Court.
