It was a very warm day at the New Zealand Golf Club with temperatures in south London reaching well over 30 degrees before play even began as Baltic Exchange Golf Society took on Stock Exchange Golf Society for its annual match.

As a result, the course was very difficult with hard, dry fairways and fast greens. When you thought you had nailed a drive down the middle, you often found the ball about 80 yards further on in the rough. One competitor even saw one of their drives reaching 410 yards!

After some tight games in the morning session, we ended up at 3-3, with valuable points earned by our debutants Neil Harper, John Madden, Will Fairclough and Hector Gunnerud.

In the afternoon, we played with only 3 pairs per team as some elected not to play due to the heat. The afternoon session was won by SEGS 2-1 giving them a 5-4 victory.

The New Zealand Golf Club was as welcoming as always and remains a great venue for this annual contest. We want to thank everyone who took part from both BEGS and SEGS and the Baltic is already looking forward to reclaiming our victory next year.
