1992-1995

At 21.23 on 10 April 1992, a 1,000 lbs IRA bomb exploded outside the Baltic Exchange, killing three people and injuring many others. Baltic staff and members were accommodated for the next year at the Lloyd’s Building, moving back to the Queen’s Room in 1993. The Baltic’s finances had been hard hit in recent years and rebuilding wasn’t an option – ultimately the decision to sell the site was taken by the Board due to lack of funds. The Baltic Exchange moved into a new building at 38 St Mary Axe on 15 May 1995.
