For the first time in over 25 years, Baltic Exchange Golfing Society (BEGS) paid a visit to Effingham Golf Club for the season’s Grand Finale. On Friday 7 November, nineteen hardy players gathered in the Surrey Hills to bring the 2025 season to a close.

The day began in traditional fashion with coffee and bacon rolls, before competitors headed out to face the elements. Persistent rain and a strong Southerly wind made for challenging conditions, but the well-prepared course ensured there was no hindrance to play. A break midway through the round was a welcome respite from the weather, setting players up for a strong finish.

The winner of the Grand Finale was ultimately decided over the closing holes. Malcolm Walker claimed victory with an impressive 41 points, scoring 14 points over the final four holes. Keith Watson finished second with 39 points, while Hon. Treasurer Chris Cox claimed third place with 37 points. Mark Potter made a welcome return to BEGS and recorded a commendable 36 points, earning honourable mention.

Special prizes were also awarded, including longest drive and nearest the pin. These prizes ranged from a wireless speaker to a reflective orange outfit and several woolly hats.

The event concluded with traditional hospitality and prize presentations, rounding off another successful BEGS season ahead of the 2026 opener at Prince’s Golf Club, Sandwich.
