Records raised as shipping community gathers at 2024 OSCAR Dragon Boat Race

It was a sunny September afternoon for the UK maritime sector as hundreds turned out for this year’s OSCAR Dragon Boat Race, hosted by Spinnaker, at Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre. The annual rowing race is one of the highlights of the shipping calendar, raising crucial funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in London.
Once again, Baltic Exchange fielded two elite teams of rowers and competed against teams from Spinnaker, Ashley Group Holdings, Borealis Maritime, Britannia P&I, BRS London, C Solution, Cheniere, Clarksons, CoolCo, Kpler, Lomar, MFB Solicitors, Miller Insurance, Navigator Gas, NorthStandard, Oldendorff, Ocean Network Express, Purus, SSY, Steamship Mutual, Taylor Maritime, Thomas Miller, Thurlestone Shipping, TMC Marine, Tysers, UKP&I, Union Maritime and Windward Shipping.

With the sun shining, the beers flowing and the BBQ smelling excellent, the two teams from Baltic Exchange faced each other in the first round of races before taking on the rest of the field in the second heat. Despite some valiant rowing efforts, neither Baltic teams made this year’s final. However, that showed the power of some excellent rowers and competitive teams at this year’s OSCAR Dragon Boat Race.
In this year’s final, Borealis, Oldendorff, CoolCo, UK P&I and MFB Solicitors were beaten by the team at Kpler who picked up this year’s trophy. Congratulations to all of the finalists and to everyone who took part!
Most importantly, more than £660,000 was raised by all the teams at this year’s race, bringing the total raised across the entire OSCAR campaign since its launch to over £3 million.
