BEGS elects Peter Hirons as newest Club Captain
Peter Hirons has been elected as Captain for 2026 following the Baltic Exchange Golfing Society’s (BEGS) recent Annual General Meeting.
Peter was proposed by the outgoing Captain, Mark Ravenscroft, and seconded by Bob Childs. He was duly elected by the membership and has since confirmed Tony McDonnell as his Vice Captain. Tony’s appointment was formally proposed and seconded at the meeting. Well known within the Society and playing off a handicap of 12, he brings both experience and competitive strength to the role.
Members recorded their sincere thanks to Mark Ravenscroft for his significant contribution during his tenure as Captain. In addition to leading the side, he fulfilled the demanding responsibilities of match manager and regular player, encouraging strong performances across a busy fixture list. Mark has also recently become a published author, with his first novel, The Sensational Vulcan Creedlers, now available through booksellers and online via Troubador Publishing.
Mark was formally thanked for his efforts in playing numerous matches and overseeing a number of meetings throughout the year. Members concluded by wishing Peter Hirons and Tony McDonnell every success as they take up their respective roles in the Society’s 125th anniversary year.
