Sampling wines from the Americas

Last week’s Baltic Briefing on the new Panama Canal was a great success with the canal’s chief architect and project manager, Michael Newbery sharing his story of how the locks and new canal had been planned, engineered and built. Over 70 members and guests were given plenty of facts and visuals of the scale of the project and the effect it is having on inter-ocean transit and trade. We are also grateful to James Leake, Managing Director of Fixed Clean for giving his analytical introduction to the impact of the new canal on bulk freight markets.

Following the briefing, guests of the Baltic Wine Society joined David Hughes in the newly refurbished Baltic Bar for a tasting of wines from the Americas. Attendees enjoyed six wines from across some of the states closest to Panama – apparently Panamanians prefer to use their own grapes for rum if possible.

Photos from the tasting can be found on the Baltic’s Flickr account and anyone interested in getting emails from the Society should email marketing@balticexchange.com
