The Baltic Exchange Sailing Society travelled to Cowes on the Isle Wight at the end of September looking to retain the Finn Trophy from Lloyd’s of London, but had to settle for a draw after some great racing from both teams.

Baltic crews covered a considerable range of member companies, including a boat entered by Clarksons, and a Young Baltic Association (YBA) boat with an eclectic crew including Oldendorff, UK P&I, Peter Dohle, China Navigation Co, Howe Robinson, and AM Nomikos.

The Baltic Exchange hammered home a resounding victory in the Racer class, with Peter Morton’s “Jelly Fish” in the first place and the YBA boat in second, Lloyd’s having to make do with 3rd, 4th and 5th.

However, in the Cruiser class, Nick China’s “Bezique” got time-limited after eight hours’ hard work out to the Nab Tower and back, and Lloyd’s took first and the only finisher.

For the Finn Trophy overall, a draw was declared at the sparkling dinner hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron of Cowes. The trophy will now spend half a year in each establishment.

A big thank you to the crews that worked so hard and made this a memorable event!
