The brand new Baltic Exchange IV lifeboat is currently under construction at RLNI Headquarters in Poole and we are delighted that Mike Robson from Brown Jenkinson, one of the leading members of the Baltic Exchange Charitable Foundation (BECF), has given us an update about the vessel’s next steps.

The lifeboat will be completed in January 2027 and commence sea trials before going on station at RLNI Salcombe in Devon later in 2027. It will replace the Baltic Exchange III lifeboat, which will go into the reserve fleet for the duration of its lifespan.

The new Shannon class Lifeboat Baltic Exchange IV has been fitted with water jet drives, which enables it to cross the Salcombe Bar in most weathers and perform much shallower water rescues.

To support the funding of the vessel, the BECF has raised more than £250,000 but we are still keen to raise more funds to ensure the vessel is fully supported throughout its lifetime.

The RLNI is hosting a gala shipping reception dinner on 30 September at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in Knightsbridge, with the dinner and drinks sponsored by Baltic Exchange. There are still a few seats left at the reception, which will be attended by the head of the RNLI and members of the RNLI Salcombe crew.
